OUR SUSTAINABILITY PRACTICES
RECYCLING 100 % OF OUR TREES WITH THE HELP OF COMMUNITY
We are connected to local landscapers, woodcarvers, and hobby timber millers. These creative and talented people re-purpose the wood into carvings sculptures and structural bases which can be found in communal areas such as school playgrounds, gardens, and community parks. We also salvage and donate unique timber that can be used in woodturning or for artwork. When available offer a free firewood collection for people in need and our CHIPS 4 TREES program rehomes wood chips not wanted by our clients. We do not dump wood or take unwanted wood to landfill – it is all used in one way or another.
EQUIPMENT
We operate with minimal equipment required to run our business successfully and make purchases that can be used for multiple tree care jobs. We try to make sure our equipment is not run excessively and when possible we use battery-powered chainsaws or hand tools which lower our overall emission output. To avoid contaminating the environment we promote the use of natural treatments for trees and vegetation when required.
HABITAT CREATION
Trees offer a place for foregoing, protection from predators, and a home to live and nest. When our customers have the opportunity available, we encourage them to retain a tree or parts of a tree to create both natural and artificial habitat.
SOCIAL MEDIA
We use our Instagram account as a tool to connect with our community and share key messages, spreading awareness of the value of trees. We hope to educate and promote; alternative solutions to tree removal, the right tree in the right place, and advocate for ethical and sustainable tree care, tree preservation, and tree planting.
SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAMS
We have an established relationship with Landcare Tasmania and as an Associate Member, we are a contributing sponsor, active supporter, and participant in community Landcare projects in Tasmania. So far we have been lending our hands for National Tree Day, nesting box Installations & rodenticides awareness.
Our “A tree 4 tree” and “Chips 4 trees” programs help us give back to the environment and sponsor tree plants events hosted by Landcare groups.
A TREE 4 A TREE
LANDCARE TASMANIA
Our Tree 4 a Tree mission was launched because we recognised the impact our industry can have on the environment, and we wanted to develop a community-based initiative to help balance it out. That’s why when we remove a mature tree, a native tree will be sponsored by us and replanted at community tree planting events in 2023.
NESTING BOX INSTALATIONS
LANDCARE TASMANIA
Landcare groups across Tassie build nesting boxes to provide vital habitat for our birds, bats and native wildlife. The growing absence of tree hollows means there is less available habitat for these species. Nesting boxes mimic tree hollows and thereby increase the potential habitat in a landscape.
Of course the nest boxes need to get high in the trees and that’s where we come in as Landcare groups skilled and trained tree-climber and resident nest box installer. We are delighted to support nesting box installations coordinated by Landcare Tasmania across southern areas of our state.
NATIONAL TREE DAY
LANDCARE TASMANIA
National Tree Day is Australia’s largest community tree planting and nature protection event striving to see over one million new trees, shrubs and grasses planted each year.
It is a call to action for all Australians to put their hands in the earth and give back to their community. Each year, about 300,000 people volunteer their time to engage in environmental activities that educate individuals about the world around them. It’s a day to venture outdoors and get to know your community, and most importantly, to have fun!
Once again this year Hobart Arbor Co. Will join a landcare group to plant trees and connect with nature and our community. To get involved send us an email, call or reach out on our social media channels
CHIPS 4 TREES
THE TREE PROJECTS AND LANDCARE TASMANIA
Hobart Arbor Co’s CHIPS 4 TREES program is one of a kind!
Debris from our jobs are recycled by wood chipping and make great mulch for your garden. When our clients don’t wish to keep the mulch, it is then sold and 100% of the profits made are donated to Landcare Tasmania and The Tree Projects
Money raised from your mulch sale goes directly towards community tree planting projects here in Tassie thanks to Landcare Tasmania and protecting our old-growth Forests and joining the fight against logging thanks to our friends at The Tree Projects
Get in touch to have our wood chips delivered to your house, school, or community garden and help support the fantastic causes!
